We all know this. We sit down, so excited to finally draw something…. but what? Sometimes i sit for DAYS and i think about an idea for drawing or painting. If someone is struggling with “Art Block”, this article may interest you. Now, these tips are not just for painters. In fact, bloggers, musicians, or writers struggle with having no inspiration as well.
First tip i have for you is TIDY UP YOUR WORKSPACE.
There is nothing I love more than clean desk, ready for some paint splatters. Sort your pencils and markers, sort your papers and just make your workspace as clean as possible. You can also clean up whole room if you’ll get too much into tidying up. This happens to me ALL THE TIME.
Go for a walk in the forest, look around.. Or just watch people from your window and be creep. Everything helps! World is full of inspiration, you just need to know how to look for it and where to find it. And if you can, take a pictures of what inspires you. Later you can use it as a reference photo again. At least you won’t forget how it looked like.
LISTEN TO SOME MUSIC
You can’t even imagine how much this can help. Either if you listen to music before you start working or durning your work, it’s a huge inspiration and motivation. For example if you want to work on somting related to Christmas, listen to Christmas Carols. One time i was working on Japanise themed picture and i was listening to this:
LOOK FOR REFERENCE PICTURES
I feel like this tip is an “of course” kind of tip, but I actually know a lot of people who are not using references. What I do most of the time is that I look on Pinterest. Now, if you don’t know what Pinterst is for some reason, it’s a website, where you can find inspiration for interior design, photography, cooking and baking recipes, drawing and painting.. EVERYTHING. Browsing Pinterest is a thing I do every single day.
WRITE DOWN PREVIOUS IDEAS
Sometimes writing all your ideas down can help a lot. Become more organized. You can combine various ideas together and maybe i’ll inspire you enough for creating a masterpiece from it.
And the most important step: TAKE IT EASY
Inspiration is a thing that comes and goes every day. Don’t rush anything, don’t feel forced or stressed. The worst thing you can do is forcing yourself and taking it too seriously. You love art and you do it when you feel like it. So feel free and calm down 🙂
